Volunteers are the lifeblood of social services organizations and Peyton’s Ranch offers lots of opportunity for those who want to, “Give back to the community.” Volunteering is a great way to meet new people, learn new skills, gain life insight, grow personally and build a better society for everyone. As a small organization, we relay 100% on volunteers to carry out our mission. Below are some areas where volunteers can help.
If you love animals and children, sharing an animal with a child can be very rewarding. You don’t necessarily have to have your own pet to share… At times, the best choice for a Comfort Critter may be a stuffed one!
Our Comfort Critter Program is carried out in a variety of ways. For our children who are immobile, our volunteers and Comfort Critters come to them. For children who are able and wish to visit the animal(s) in their natural environment, volunteers engage and interact with the children at one of our partner farm locations. For more information on our partner farms, click here.
All animal handlers must have confidence in their ability to maintain control of the animal, advocate for the safety and comfort of the animal, and be primarily responsible for the well-being of the animal at all times. Your animal partner must enjoying meeting new people and visiting new places. He must be healthy, skilled in basic obedience and under control at all times.
Therapy animals and partners who have passed special training programs and are deemed worthy of the certification to visit in special need settings are preferred, but not required (in all cases).
